Just Shoot Me Now!

Today's prompt for Migraine Awareness Month is Just Shoot Me Now!  What's your worst Migraine trigger?  Can you avoid it?  How do you handle it?

What's my worst trigger?  Eeny Meenie Miney Moe!  If you are a migraineur, you already understand my dilemma! So many triggers, so few solutions!

All three of these - scents, lights and weather changes are a guaranteed invitation to a humdinger of a Migraine.  Lights I can handle by getting away or wearing sunglasses.  Weather changes are inevitable, and I can just stay at home to suffer in peace.

Scents, however, are a totally different story!  I know I appear to be a manic phobic when it comes to scents! God bless the perfume lady who dares to come near me to even offer me a whiff as I stare at her horrified and run from her as a frightened animal might.  While most people don't have to think twice about going out in public, every setting has potential scent triggers.  How do you explain to people that you need them to be scent free when they are with you or that you can't stay in a home or store with them without it appearing to be a personal affront?  Scents that literally strike terror in my head are

I know it is hard for most people to understand, but these scents, among others, cause nausea and an instant stabbing sensation in my left eye.  At that point, I know I am headed for one of my most intense migraines and that there is no turning back.  The amount of time to which I am exposed to it does not matter.  The bottom line is
Scents = Migraine

and until a better treatment protocol is developed for me,
there's nothing I can do about it!

National Migraine Awareness Month is initiated by the National Headache Foundation. The Blogger’s Challenge is initiated by  www.FightingHeadacheDisorders.com.

  1. It's interesting to hear other people's stories. While we're all fighting against a common enemy, we all have different tales to tell. Scents for some reason don't cause me problems. And yet light, weather changes, hot showers and exercise do!

  4. Most scents I can handle, perfume I can not. Candle scents as long as they are not flowery or clean linen, I love dryer sheets, can handle Febreeze, can not handle most cleaning products, no Lysol spray. Weather, sometimes is a trigger. When you have migraines every day it’s hard to determine what is and what isn’t a trigger. Though sometimes, it’s instant with some smells, lights are sometimes hard, headlight hurt, but don’t usually, cause a migraine. I’m having a great summer so far, the best 2 months in years, yay! I’m taking methergen and it’s like a miracle drug (for me, this time) With all the different symptoms, triggers, and treatments that all work different on each person, It’s no wonder they can not make any progress in finding a cure! Prayer help us All! God Bless…

    1. I started taking Methergin about a month ago and unfortunately it hasn't been a miracle for me yet! Maybe I'm a slow starter! LOL

  5. Ay carumba, scents indeed! It's terrible, isn't it? I hate getting stuck behind a stinky spewing diesel vehicle.

  6. i clean my floor with water, bicarb of soda, vinegar, and a drop of lavender essence (it's antiseptic)

    i am so used to having a synthetic fragrance free household i am really shocked when i go into other people's spaces. i use a fragrance free conditioner for my washing (got to mask DOG somehow) and i thought that because i use actual lavender that i would get away with a lavender scented conditioner when i ran out of my usual stuff.

    so wrong.

    1. what proportions of each do you use? I'll need to find a sub for lavender since it is one my worst triggers! Thanks for the info!
